I'm finally getting around building my 20kw wind generator project. I got a good chunk of the core system sorted out already but I'm missing two components. First, I'm looking for an exciter winding. It's the one that's roughly the size of a dinner plate and about 2inches thick. The other one is a reliable charge controller that can handle the 20kw output. I need something robust and ideally with good MPPT capabilities. I've been on a hunt for these two parts for over a week now. If anyone has leads or any ideas what I can do, I'd appreciate your help!

Cool project! For the exciter winding, maybe try turbine parts suppliers or rewind shops. As for a 20kW MPPT charge controller, check out some heavy-duty off-grid models.

I completely agree, turbine shops and rewinding facilities are definitely a wise investment. Plus, using a robust off-grid MPPT is the best choice for managing that kind of load. Deming and Engelec have solid options.

honestly, bro. That charge controller is going to be specialized. A 20kW MPPT for wind is not your typical solar charge controller.
You'll need to look at industrial scale renewable energy equipment suppliers or companies that specialize in commercial wind turbine components. Brands like Outback Power, MidNite Solar, or even custom solutions from industrial control companies might have options, but they'll be pricey

For the exciter, check with motor rewind shops or surplus industrial suppliers; sometimes they've got old generator parts lying around.

That’s a pretty serious build. The advice above is pretty good, especially checking rewind shops for the exciter, since those aren’t really off the shelf parts. For the controller, you’re definitely in industrial wind territory, not solar gear, so commercial suppliers or custom setups are usually the path.
